Recursos+ | Companies cover tuition fees for Técnico students to train engineers for the energy transition

Studying Mining and Energy Resources Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico may mean having tuition fees fully covered by companies in the sector – a clear reflection of the strong demand for qualified talent in this field.
Companies linked to mineral and energy resources have already invested around €42,000 in scholarships under the Recursos+ programme, an initiative created to address the shortage of professionals in a sector that is strategic for the energy transition.
Since its launch in the 2024/2025 academic year, the programme has awarded 42 scholarships to undergraduate students, strengthening the direct connection between academic training and market needs.
This support model ensures full tuition coverage for first-year students and may be extended throughout the degree programme, subject to academic performance.
A degree with growing market demand
The industry’s investment in this area is not incidental; it reflects a growing demand for qualified engineers to address challenges related to energy, critical raw materials and the decarbonisation of the economy.
By directly supporting students’ education, companies aim to secure a steady pipeline of professionals prepared to contribute to a sector of high strategic importance, both nationally and internationally.
A programme closely connected to industry
In addition to financial support, the Recursos+ programme includes a strong industry engagement component, offering access to site visits, seminars, summer internships and applied projects.
This close connection allows students to develop skills aligned with market requirements and facilitates their integration into the workforce.
