International Geodiversity Day 2024
DER joins CERENA in celebrating International Geodiversity Day (UNESCO) with the activity entitled "Geodiversity Through the Lens of Built Heritage".
This activity, taking place on October 7, 2024, includes a study visit to a monument in Lisbon - Sé Catedral de Lisboa - where participants will have the opportunity to observe the diversity of stone materials (correlated with periods of construction or restoration ) and also show the (sometimes quite different) response of these materials to degradation agents and therefore show different decay patterns.
Participation is free but registration is mandatory and can be sent to the following email address: amelia.dionisio@tecnico.ulisboa.pt
International Geodiversity Day was established in 2021 by UNESCO, the United Nations organization dedicated to education, science and culture. This day is celebrated, for the first time around the world, on October 6, 2022. This celebration's main objective is to alert society to the role that geodiversity plays in ensuring the well-being and prosperity of human beings and the necessary conditions for the preservation of biodiversity.
