DER visit to Vila Viçosa school group

Students from the 1st and 3rd cycles of the Vila Viçosa School Group had the opportunity to develop several teaching activities representing Mineral and Energy Resources Engineering.

The day began at the CECHAP facilities, in the center of Vila Viçosa with a group of more than 40 primary school students. The enthusiasm was enormous when the students came across boxes full of sand, where they had to discover rocks and minerals and some enigmatic magic boxes that contained a set of minerals with fluorescent properties. Throughout the morning, more than 200 students from various primary education establishments in the Vila Viçosa School Group visited CECHAP and enthusiastically carried out these activities.

In the afternoon it was the turn of the students from Escola Secundária Públia Hortênsia de Castro. Initially, I planned to develop two activities for around 40 students from two classes, but this number quickly more than doubled, with the Science and Economics classes. They had the opportunity to develop an activity regarding the application of minerals in everyday objects and have an immersive experience with a virtual visit to quarries, mines and green energy production areas.

This visit had the support of CECHAP and was carried out by DER teachers Amélia Dionísio and Gustavo Paneiro.
