Professor Leonardo Azevedo receives an Honorable Mention in the Annual Scientific Awads from ULisboa/CGD

We announce that Prof. Leonardo Azevedo has been recognized with an honorable mention in the Annual Scientific Awards ULisboa/CGD. This prestigious contest, sponsored by the University of Lisbon in collaboration with Caixa Geral dos Depositos, aims to celebrate outstanding scientific research across various disciplines.

Leonardo Azevedo’s contributions in the field of Earth Science and Geophysics have left a lasting impact on the scientific community. His academic journey began at the University of Aveiro, where he earned his degree as a Geology Engineer. Subsequently, he pursued his Ph.D. in Georesources at Instituto Superior Técnico, during which he had the opportunity to be a visiting student at Stanford and Heriot-Watt universities.

Azevedo’s primary research focuses on geostatistical tools for inverting geophysical data, with applications in georesources and environmental studies. His expertise extends beyond academia; he has held software engineering positions in industry and served as the Principal Investigator (PI) for the SMART project, which monitors marine plastic debris.

Currently, Professor Leonardo Azevedo holds the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Mineral Resources Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnicoo and is the President of CERENA.
