“Updated Methods for Raises Geomechanical Analysis”, by Rodolfo Machado (Consultant).

Within the scope of the Curricular Unit “Mining Engineering and Energy Resources Seminars”, on March 27, 2024, Rodolfo Machado returned to Instituto Superior Técnico (Department of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineering - DER), having given the Lecture on “Updated Methods for Raises Geomechanical Analysis” to students of the Master in Mining and Geological Engineering (MEGM) and the Master in Energy Resources Engineering.

Rodolfo Machado is graduated in Mining Engineering and Georesources by Instituto Superior Técnico and has a postgraduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering at Camborne School of Mines (UK). He has 20 years of experience in underground mines, mainly related to rock mechanics and explosives. He held roles as a rock mechanics engineer, rock mechanics laboratory engineer, explosives engineer and as head of the Rock Mechanics and Explosives department. Carrying out and participating in several studies related to the analysis of stability for permanent or temporary excavations (various mining methods) and recommendations for support and instrumentation for these galleries or raises. Studies related to filling methods (paste, hydraulic and waste filling) to improve quality, reduce dilution, increase productivity and reduce costs. Studies related to explosives, from improvements in blasting layouts to reduce costs, increase efficiency, reduce dilution and implement new techniques and new types of explosives.
