As part of the celebrations marking the Técnico Day, the academic community gathered this morning to recognise and celebrate the merit of both students and faculty members. Academic Excellence Diplomas were awarded to around two hundred undergraduate and master’s students, as well as Outstanding Teaching Awards to approximately two hundred professors.

During the ceremony, the President of the Pedagogical Council, Professor Miguel Teixeira, highlighted the significance of the distinction: “They receive [the diploma] because they truly are excellent.” The initiative was a symbolic moment within the Técnico Day celebrations, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to teaching quality and academic success.

Margarida Figueiredo, a student of the Integrated Master’s in Geological and Mining Engineering, was among the students honoured. Her academic journey and involvement in extracurricular projects embody the Técnico spirit, which goes far beyond academic performance alone.

As emphasised by Laura Zappavigna, Vice-President of the Pedagogical Council and a student herself, “What truly defines a Técnico student goes far beyond grades – at Técnico, excellence is also curiosity, stepping outside the classroom and excelling in projects, labs, and competitions.”

The diploma awards not only recognised outstanding academic paths but also served as a celebration of the dedication, innovation, and resilience that characterise the Técnico community.
