Meet&Greet “DER People” Gathering Brings Together Academic Community on April 30th

On April 30th, theMineral and Energy Resources Engineering Department (DER) held another edition of DER People, a gathering that brought together faculty, students, and staff for a moment of sharing, recognition, and community building.

The event began with a welcome speech by Professor Maria João Pereira, Head of Department, who emphasized the importance of collaboration and community engagement in advancing the department’s mission.

This was followed by the introduction of two of DER’s three newly appointed faculty members: Professor Joana Lobo Antunes, an expert in Science Communication, and Professor Ricardo Araújo, a renowned paleontologist. Their arrival represents a significant academic and scientific reinforcement, and was met with great enthusiasm by the community.

During the event, DER Passports were awarded to students who have shown outstanding commitment by actively participating in various initiatives aimed at both the academic community and the broader public. This symbolic recognition highlights the department’s appreciation for their dedication.

The event concluded with an informal networking moment at the GeoLab, featuring an original gastronomic experience led by student Ruben Almeida through his project Cozinha com Engenho (Cooking with Ingenuity), blending culinary creativity with community spirit.

The DER People gathering reinforces the department’s commitment to fostering a vibrant, cohesive, and inspiring academic environment.
