On October 23, 2025, Mining Engineer Marco Antonio Freire Ramos, a graduate of the Federal University of Bahia (Brazil), visited the Department of Mineral and Energy Resources Engineering (DER) at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST).

Currently serving at the National Mining Agency (ANM) of Brazil, Eng. Marco Ramos holds a Master’s degree in Mineral Production Management from Imperial College London (Royal School of Mines, UK).

The main purpose of his visit was to explore future collaboration opportunities between IST and ANM, within the scope of the scientific and technological activities developed by both institutions. The meeting was an excellent opportunity to strengthen academic and technological exchange, fostering knowledge sharing and the joint development of education and research initiatives.

During his visit to DER, Eng. Marco Ramos toured the GEOLab – Geosciences and Geotechnologies Laboratory, the MIL – Multi-scale Imaging Laboratory, and the Alfredo Bensaúde and Décio Thadeu Museums, expressing particular interest in the scientific and heritage infrastructures of the Institute.
