On September 3, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy Engineering (DER) at Instituto Superior Técnico welcomed new students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in Mining and Energy Resources Engineering (LEME), the Master’s Degree in Geological and Mining Engineering (MEGM), and the Master’s Degree in Energy Resources Engineering (MERE) at a session dedicated to welcoming and integrating students into the academic community.

Held in room QA1.1, in the South Tower, the Welcome Session provided students with an opportunity to become acquainted with the Department, its teaching staff, and the various academic and student structures that will support them throughout their studies at Técnico.

During the session, the DER’s educational programmes and the LEME tutoring team were presented, along with the main structures supporting student life and participation in the academic community. Students also had the opportunity to learn more about NUMIST – Núcleo de Minas do Instituto Superior Técnico, the Students’ Association of Instituto Superior Técnico, the Praxe Committee, and the Academic Development Centre.

The session also included presentations of the Department’s Master’s programmes, allowing new students to gain a better understanding of the different fields of study and the academic and professional opportunities available in the areas of mineral resources, energy, geology, and mining engineering.

The Welcome Session thus marked the beginning of a new chapter for the students joining DER, providing an opportunity for them to meet, share experiences, and become acquainted with the academic community of which they are now part.
